Hi I’m Keith, the current Membership secretary of the Gauge One Model Railway Association, East Anglia Group.
What the East Anglia group does in particular for their members in this area, who come from as far away as Lincolnshire in the north and Chelmsford in the South. We hold two get togethers every month (one on the second Wednesday and one on the last Sunday) at our indoor track - which is located near the A14 between Bury St. Edmunds and Ipswich. Members can also use the Club facilities at other times if they want to meet in small groups or just test a locomotive that's recently been finished. Bookings can be made via myself. The only stipulation we have as a group to the use of our facilities is that there needs to be at least two people present, the second person does not need to be a member of either G1MRA or the East Anglia Group but is purely there to raise the alarm should anything untoward happen during the visit. Members are responsible for the safety of themselves and their Guests. We publish a Quarterly newsletter for the group that details modelling interests of our members and forthcoming events in our area as well as reports from recent events in our locality.
Our group also own operate and occasionally display at exhibitions and shows, the well-regarded Anglia Roads portable scenic layout.
If you live in the East Anglia Area, why not pay us a visit with a view to joining our group of gauge 1 modellers. We have members modelling and running electric, live steam (fired by coal, gas or methylated spirit), radio controlled etc. If it will run on 45mm code 180 rail and fit within G1MRA track and clearance standards, you would be welcomed.
We have members who scratch build, kit build or use ready to run locos and 3D Print, so there are a great many brains to pick. Our members are drawn from Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Lincolnshire and Essex. Our permanent scenic indoor layout is situated near the A14 between Bury St. Edmunds and Ipswich.
For further details phone or email our membership secretary you can try before you buy.
New or prospective members are welcome to try us with three visits as a guest of the club before we require any financial commitment.
I can guarantee that joining this, or any other local group will greatly enhance your enjoyment of our wonderful hobby.
